Jose Vega Theme Project Reflection

Our second presentation of the semester was a theme presentation and we had to talk about disabilities. As for my group (group 3), we decided to do further research on deaf/hard of hearing and specific learning disabilities, that being dyslexia and comprehensive reading disorder. At first, it was confusing as to what we had to do exactly. However, as a group, we met through blackboard and came up with a game plan to complete this assignment given to us. Our group consisted of around thirteen class members and we divided the work evenly. In addition, I want to let whoever is reading this know that the work was divided evenly and by choice. Nobody was forced to do a topic they did not want to do. Furthermore, we created google slides and made sure everyone was able to edit and write in order to start on our presentation. Some of us did interviews with close relatives who had these disabilities and I would say it motivated us to search more about these topics. Whenever we had doubts or concerns we made them clear to our group and we were all quick to answer any questions or to clarify any concerns for our other classmates. Knowing that this presentation was going to be published publicly for other students at Miami Dade to see extremely motivated us to make sure that our topic was precise and accurate. We took our time researching different sites and even looking up experiences from people with these disabilities. Although this was a time-consuming project, I must admit that I did enjoy taking my time on it and helping my group. We took notes on how the other two groups presented and wanted to make sure that what we were presenting could be taught across and gathered by others who are unfamiliar with this topic. We included videos in our presentations that explain in detail what we were presenting and we also included graphs and data charts to compare these disabilities to the years prior. As a group, I am proud of the work that we did because we presented it in a professional way. I hope that our presentation is used in the future as a guide or to whoever may wish to learn more about deaf/hard of hearing and specific learning disabilities. I am also extremely proud of my class and the other groups because they presented in a professional manner and I must say that I did learn a lot from what they showed. Being in Professor Sherri's class has been an honor to enroll in. I have learned how to work as a group and communicate with others in a kindly fashion even when my group members don't share the same ideas as I do. This class has taught me how to be a great team member to others and it helped me come out of my comfort zone. Lastly, I want to thank everyone for also being a good sport and helping each other as a team.
