Last Monday, May 10th was our first day of class. I was so nervous because is a speech class. As the name suggests, is a class when you have to speak in front of other people. Public speaking classes allow practice and preparation to overcome this debilitating occurrence. Although taking public speaking classes can improve communication skills tremendously, I get nervous always I have to do a speech in public. Just as I feared that same day we were split into groups and were assigned a group presentation two days later. Also, I am aware that presenting and defending ideas eventually improves confidence and better previously weak communication skills, so I thought I have to do it and give the best of myself.

In my group which is group three, there are 13 people. I remember I was wishing they would be nice and kind. Better than that, and to my surprise, I noticed looking at the classmate’s names that in the entire class there were like five people that I know from other classes, and even from my old job. I was technically praying so that at least one of them would be on my team. For my luck so it was. I just felt more comfortable when I knew it.

I would say my group is such a great group. The communication from the beginning was excellent. I would dare to say that is the first time I see a group really working as a team and helping each other. Most of us in the group still didn’t have the book. One of our group members immediately sent us the pictures of the chapters and all the information that we needed to cover. The chapter that we had to present was chapter 10 (Group Leadership and Problem solving). That topic was really adequate to the moment. Precisely, that was what we had to put into practice; how to work as a team, give ideas, solving problems, find solutions together, and count everyone’s opinion. In the case of the leaders how to deal with the task roles and responsibilities. That is exactly what we did, we learned from each other. We agreed to divide into small groups of two and in that way cover all the material. The communication between members was amazing, there were no complaints. We consulted each decision, and all members were available to clarify doubts. If someone made a question in the chat, everyone gave an immediate response. Finally, a team member volunteered to review all the project and improve it. There were some errors that could be corrected before the presentation.

On the presentation day, we were so excited, anxious, and ready to get it over with. We did our best. I wouldn’t ask for any other team. We really enjoyed the process and even more the results. I am so happy that we made it as a team. It was a pleasure, and I look forward to working with my classmates on future assignments.
